Peter was a real gentleman and the ultimate professional. As a work colleague and fellow crew member he was always the person you would choose to be with in a difficult situation or crisis. I worked with Peter on several productions over the years and one assignment remains firmly in my memory. We found ourselves somewhere in France, filming an interview in the spacious cab of a brand new truck, along with the Belgian owner who ran a French transport company. He was the M.D. and while an enthusiastic rally driver in his spare time, he wasn't so good at driving lorries... he lost all the air from the air-brakes while coming down a steep bend and much to our horror, after deliberately hitting a couple of trees to try to slow down, he ended up rolling us end-to-end and sideways down a bank. The lorry came to rest on it's side and the Belgian ran off into the woods, shouting that he had lost his glasses and his shoes. Peter and I were left to fend for ourselves with the engine still running and I remember Peter cracking jokes in his inimitably dry manner while we lay in a crumpled heap, still wedged inside the cab. We subsequently recorded the accident on Camera complete with a wonderfully dry voice-over by Peter describing the scene... Peter, I will miss your brilliant sense of humour and your sangfroid.
